Squash 06/02/08 - Ladies Leamington I v Four Oaks, away (Leamington lost 3-2)

5th string Jenny Lee v Charley Heller
Jenny Lee returned to the Leamington side for the first time this season having replaced squash with running. Her eye was not quite in for the first game but she was moving well around the court. Charley won it 9/2. But Jenny Lee found better form in the second game producing better length and thus putting more pressure on her opponent. She narrowly lost it 9/7. Continuing the match with increased accuracy Jenny Lee comfortably took the third game 9/4. Charley countered in the fourth with a concentrated effort to take the game 9/2 and the match 3-1.

4th String Nicola Brown v Sally Portman

Four Oaks's Sally Portman got off to a flying start, somewhat aided by first game nerves on Nicola's part but also deceived by Sally's boasts and Sally took the game 9/4. Similar tactics were demonstrated in the second game with some hard fought rallies but Nicola began to read her opponents shots better and produced better lengths herself and gained a 9/5 win. Nicola had now settled into her rhythm and continued to play a more thinking game with deceptive drop shots and a hard hitting driving game which afforded her a 9/7 victory in the third. The fourth was even more convincing by Nicola and captain Max Holt commented that she had never seen Nicola play so well and she took the game 9/3 and the match 3-1.

3rd string Max Holt v Sarah Heller

A close and hard fought match ensued throughout this match with both ladies fighting to dominate the game. Max got off to a better start and took the opening game 9/3. The next two games were incredibly close and both players were struggling to clear the ball sufficiently, leading to several lets and strokes and indeed Max was actually hit by her opponent on one occasion. Sarah succeeded in taking the second and third games 9/6 and 10/9 respectively. With nothing between the two the fourth game was equally battled for and Max was narrowly defeated in it 9/7. Match to Four Oaks 3-1.

2nd string Ali Bate v Sam Hampson

Despite Ali winning in their previous meeting, she was no match for the Sam she met on court tonight. Sam was extrememly fit and played with such ferocity Ali was left shocked and stunned. She tried to take the pace off the ball to thwart the hard hittig approach of her opponent for two games but it was performed with too much inaccuracy and she was quickly two love down 9/3, 9/1. Ali changed tack in the third and also hit the ball hard and low which proved a better tactic. But it was too late in the day and she lost the game 9/7 and the match 3-0.

1st string Jemma Holt v Tracey King

Jemma looked in good form this evening even as early on as the knock up and she did not disappoint in the match. She did to her opponent what Four Oaks did in the second string match and outplayed her opponent convincingly. She won the match 9/0, 9/4, 9/1.
