Squash 16/01/2008- Ladies I v Edgbaston Priory I (4-1 Win)

5th String match

Leamington's Nicola Brown had a great match. Despite losing the first game 5/9, she fought hard to gain control in the second, narrowly winning the game 9/7. With her opponent being a particularly accurate player, Nicola had to fully utilise her excellent cross courts and disguised drop shots to out play the Edgbaston 5th string. A battle for the upper hand continued throughout the match and Nicola won the next two games 9/5 and 9/7 for a 3-1 victory.

4th String

Jackie Lindsay for Leamington came out strong in the opening two games, playing the most exquisite lengths from all over the court. She took the initial games 9/6 and 9/4. Despite an ongoing knee injury, which plagued her in the latter half of the match, she continued to play great shots. She lost the third game 6/9 but stormed through the fourth game with a 9/1 win, taking the match 3-1.

3rd String

Leamingtons Max Holt had a tough match against Edbastons 3rd string with both players eager to control the rallies. The first game was taken 9/6 by Max. The second game resulted in a 9/6 win for Edgbaston and the score reflects just how competitive the match was becoming. The third game was again a hard fight with a number of lets requested as both players tried to take the ball earlier. Edgbaston took the third game 9/6 again. The upper hand was with Max's opponent at the start of the fourth game and Max struggled to take control for herself, resulting in a 4/9 score, and a 1-3 match defeat.

2nd String

Ali Bate for Leamington was in fine form this evening and moved the ball around the court with great accuracy. She took the first game 9/1 but was prepared for her opponent to come out all guns blazing after a slow start. The rallies did get longer but Ali continued to find the corners putting pressure on her opponent throughout and winning the second game 9/1 too. The third game was a closer fought battle but Ali was moving too well to get into a real difficulty and her opponent could do nothing with a number of great lobs to the back of the court, winning the third game 9/5 and the match 3-0.

1st String

Leonie Holt played in the number one position this evening and there were some fears for her form due to recent illness but she got off to the perfect start with a 9/0 win, completely controlling each rally. She looked in great shape but her opponent returned to the court ready for a fight. The match really got into full swing with some sublime squash from both players. Leonie managed to take command in the latter stages of the game and won it 9/7. However, her opponent was not going to give up and turned the match around taking full advantage of a lack of concentration and rhythm in Leonies game, winning the third 2/9. Leonie however regained her composure and again the game was a joy to watch as each lady played hard and fast. The pendulum swung back to Leamington's favour as Leonie won the fourth game 9/3 and the match 3-1.
