Latest match report

This week, Leamington 1st team played away versus Birmingham Uni.

Steve Walter went on first and he had a tough evening. He found it hard to get into the rallies with the court being cold and dead. The ball was dying quickly and he was unable to impose himself on the game with his attacking high paced style of squash. Steve went down 3/0 in this one.

Pete Knowles had a cracking game against the very talented Chris Blackhouse. Pete got off to a really good start playing with high intensity and not letting his opponent settle on the ball. Chris had to work really hard to match Pete in the second game and subsequently sacrificed a lot of his energy. Pete was then able to take control of the last two games and went on to a 3/1 win. Good performance!

Alex Wood went on against the Alan Walton who has come into a bit of good form this season. Alex’s preparation for this game wasn’t great with being heavily involved with commitments off the squash court in recent weeks and therefore a bit out of match practice. Even though the games were very close, Alan managed to secure a 3/0 win and continue his good form.

Phil Hartley went on with his usual drive and determination to win. The first few games were close, both players adapting to the tough court conditions. Phil managed to take control of the game, using height well to get the ball to the back of the court and control the ‘T’ position. He went on to a good 3/1 win.

Jason Pike went on last against Miles Jenkins. It is usually very close between these two players but not so much this time. Playing professionally now and training hard, Miles was clearly in good form and was able to control the game with tight hitting and good control of the court using the volley. He went on to a fairly convincing 3/0 win.

Next match is at home versus Edgbaston Priory. Leamington will be keen to make up for this week’s loss. It will also see the return of Dean Boys after a few months away. The team will also be wearing their brand new kit supplied by iPROSPORTS and sponsored by C4 Logistics.

See you next week!
