Tony Pillinger with Leamington Tennis and Squash Club, Competition of the Year

We are delighted to be able to announce that Tony Pillinger and LLTSC are this year’s recipient of Tournament of the Year as part of the Aegon British Tennis awards. Tony will be presented his award during the 1st week of Wimbledon at a prestigious awards lunch held within the grounds of Wimbledon. The LTA have said:

Full-time coach Tony Pillinger dedicates his life to tennis, putting in the extra hours as a referee and tournament organiser at Leamington Tennis and Squash Club.

With the ongoing invaluable support of the members and Tennis Leaders who proactively offer their time, the club serves up plenty of smiles with its extensive all-year round competition programme. This includes both internal and external tournaments, as well as individual and team events for players of all levels.

Its flagship summer Grade 4 competition has been the biggest of its type in Warwickshire for the last five years. In 2016, it achieved over 150 entries last year, becoming the most successful tournament in the Midlands region.

The annual tournament has been running for over ten years for both Mini Tennis and junior players and last year’s event scored 100% player satisfaction – a massive testament to the hard work, dedication and time put in by Tony and the team.

From fun social media updates to keep players in-the-know, to a self-built Olympics-style podium for trophy presentations, the club has the tiniest touches down to an absolute tee!

Due to its recent success, the tournament has been upgraded to a Grade 3 and will now open to adults. We’re beyond excited to hear all about it and wish the best of luck to the players and organisers involved!
