The First Lawn Tennis Club

Established in 1872, Leamington Lawn Tennis and Squash Club holds the title of First Lawn Tennis Club in the World. That’s right, it all started in Royal Leamington Spa – three years before Wimbledon opened it’s doors.

These days we also have a very active squash section, our own gym and fabulous new bar.

The tennis section of the club has been back on court now for a few weeks with the majority of the activities back underway, including the monthly ladders, coaching and club championships.

Squash & Gym (COVID-19 Update)

On Saturday 25th July, Squash and Gym facilities will reopen in a way consistent with COVID-19 safety. Please read this document which gives the details of how that will be managed.

The Hidden Gem Bar

Our wonderful contemporary bar – The Hidden Gem – has a large indoor and outdoor space, which overlooks the tennis courts.  This has recently re-opened, with Government-led social distancing guidelines being fully adhered to, and is available for all members and guests from the same household.  The hours of service are as follows:

Mon – Fri    10am to noon & 6pm to 10:30 pm

Sat & Sun    11am to 7pm

Tennis Club Nights

Wednesday and Friday nights will be returning to a more normal ‘mix in’ type format from Wed 22nd July with the introduction of some Covid-19 related precautions. You will still have to let Tony know in advance if you are going to attend (click here for details) but groups will be mixed around on the night more like normal mix-ins.

Tennis Check-in Kiosk and Lights

From the 22nd July tennis members will have to check in at the kiosk by the entrance like they did before lock down began. Guest fees will again be charged and lights can be activated.  (Read the section on tennis here for details.)
